How this typing speed test works

This online typing test measures how many words you can type per minute (WPM) and how accurately you type them. It uses real exam-style passages on polity, history, science, office work and legal topics — the kind of text you will see in the SSC, Railway and High Court skill tests — instead of random words.

  • Choose your layout: English QWERTY, Hindi Mangal Inscript, Krutidev 010 or Remington GAIL.
  • Choose the duration: 1, 2, 3, 5, 10 or 15 minutes.
  • Type the passage in the box. Correct words turn green and mistakes turn red (switch off Highlight for exam practice).
  • Get your result: gross and net WPM, accuracy, KDPH, full and half mistakes, with a word-by-word comparison.

What is a good typing speed?

Most government exams ask for 30–35 WPM in English and 25–30 WPM in Hindi. An average computer user types around 35–40 WPM; a trained typist types 50 WPM or more with 95%+ accuracy. Read our guide on average typing speed for details.

How do I take the typing test?

Select the language/layout and duration, click inside the typing box and start typing the passage. The timer starts automatically and the result appears when time is up or when you click Submit.

How is WPM calculated in this typing test?

One word is counted as 5 key depressions including spaces. Gross WPM = key depressions ÷ 5 ÷ minutes. Net WPM = Gross WPM − mistakes ÷ minutes.

Can I take the typing test in Hindi?

Yes. Select Hindi — Mangal Inscript, Krutidev 010 or Remington GAIL. You can type Hindi on a normal English keyboard because the layouts are built in.

Is backspace allowed?

By default yes. Turn the Backspace switch off to practise for exams where corrections are not allowed.
